🎨 Heritage DIY: Ganesha’s Royal Lotus Throne (Padmasana) 🪷

When you look at an Indian idol, you will notice it never sits directly on the ground. It always sits on a special base called a Pedestal. The most famous pedestal is the Lotus Throne (or Padmasana). Even though the lotus grows in mud, it stays perfectly clean and bright, which is why it is a symbol of goodness!

    What You'll Need

    • Pink paper (for the petals) and Green paper (for the leaves)
    • A small paper plate or a circle of cardboard
    • Scissors
    • Glue

    Step-by-Step

    1. The Green Base: Cut a large circle out of green paper and glue it onto your paper plate. This is the giant lotus leaf that floats on the water.
    2. Cut the Petals: Cut 8 to 12 "tear-drop" shapes out of the pink paper. These will be your lotus petals.
    3. Curl the Tips: Gently wrap the tip of each petal around a pencil to give it a little curl. This makes the flower look like it is blooming!
    4. Build the Flower: Glue the bottom of the petals in a circle on top of your green leaf. Make sure they overlap slightly.
    5. Add a Second Layer: If you have more petals, glue another smaller circle of petals inside the first one.
    6. The Sacred Seat: In the very center of the flower, you now have a perfect flat spot. This is the "Throne" where you can place your Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol.

    The Indian Connection

In the Shilpa Shastras (the ancient books of art rules), the pedestal is just as important as the idol itself. It raises the deity up to show respect. The lotus throne is used for many gods, including Ganesha, Lakshmi, and Saraswati, to show that they are divine and pure.

💡 Big Word: Asana (आसन) - A Sanskrit word that means a "seat" or a "posture."

⚠️ Safety Note: Be careful with the scissors when cutting out the many petals!
