Kartika: The Festival of Lights ✨

The Land & The Story: Welcome to the eighth month, Kartika (October-November)! This month is named after the Krittika stars (the Pleiades). It falls in the middle of Sharad Ritu (Autumn) and is famous for the biggest festival in India—Diwali! Diwali is the festival of lights, celebrating the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya. We light diyas, make beautiful Rangolis, and eat yummy sweets. This month is also special for Sikhs as it marks Guru Nanak Jayanti. In many places, people light lamps and float them in rivers during Karthigai Deepam. It’s a month that reminds us that light will always win over darkness.

🌍 Conservation Corner: Instead of loud crackers that make the air smoky and scare animals, we can celebrate a "Green Diwali" with more lights, flowers, and handmade gifts.

🌍 Knowledge Check:

  1. Which famous festival of lights falls in the month of Kartika?
  2. What are the small clay lamps called that we light during Diwali?

Big Word: Prosperity - A state of being successful, healthy, and happy, which many people pray for during Kartika.
