Margashirsha: The Pleasant Path 🚶
The Land & The Story: As the heat of the year fades away, we enter the ninth month, Margashirsha (November-December). This month is part of the Hemanta Ritu (Pre-winter). It is named after the Mrigashirsha star, which looks like the head of a deer! In the famous book Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says that among all the months, he is Margashirsha. This is because the weather is very pleasant—not too hot and not too cold. It’s a great time for traveling and visiting temples. In South India, the beautiful month of Margazhi (which is the Tamil name for this month) is filled with early morning songs and colorful Kolams (floor art) outside every house.
🌍 Conservation Corner: Many birds from cold countries fly to India during this month because our weather is so pleasant. We can help them by protecting our wetlands and lakes where they like to rest.
