🎨 Heritage DIY: Festive Door Hangings (Toran) 🥭

A Toran is a beautiful door hanging used in India to decorate the entrance of homes during festivals and special occasions.

    What You'll Need

    • Colored paper or felt (yellow, green, and red)
    • Scissors
    • String or ribbon
    • Glue
    • Beads or sequins for decoration

    Step-by-Step

    1. Cut the green paper or felt into the shape of mango leaves.
    2. Cut the red or yellow paper into shapes of marigold flowers.
    3. Glue the leaves and flowers alternately onto a long piece of string or ribbon, making sure it's long enough to hang across your doorway.
    4. Decorate the leaves and flowers with beads or sequins for an extra sparkle.
    5. Once dry, hang your handmade Toran above your door!

    The Indian Connection

In Indian culture, tying a Toran at the main entrance of a home is considered highly auspicious. It is believed to please and attract the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, and serves as a warm, welcoming sight for guests. The green leaves represent life and prosperity, while the vibrant colors represent joy and festivity.
