Step-by-Step
- Cut the green paper or felt into the shape of mango leaves.
- Cut the red or yellow paper into shapes of marigold flowers.
- Glue the leaves and flowers alternately onto a long piece of string or ribbon, making sure it's long enough to hang across your doorway.
- Decorate the leaves and flowers with beads or sequins for an extra sparkle.
- Once dry, hang your handmade Toran above your door!
The Indian Connection
In Indian culture, tying a Toran at the main entrance of a home is considered highly auspicious. It is believed to please and attract the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, and serves as a warm, welcoming sight for guests. The green leaves represent life and prosperity, while the vibrant colors represent joy and festivity.
