Shivaji Maharaj: Father of the Indian Navy ⚓
The Land & The Story: Ahoy there, young explorers! Did you know that over 350 years ago, Shivaji Maharaj realized that to protect his kingdom, he needed to control the big blue ocean? He famously said, "He who has the navy, has the sea!" Because of his brilliant vision, he is known today as the Father of the Indian Navy. He built many small and fast ships that could sail easily through the narrow creeks of the Konkan coast. This helped him protect India from foreign invaders who came by sea.
To make his navy even stronger, he built massive Sea Forts. The most famous one is Sindhudurg, which was built on a rocky island in the middle of the Arabian Sea. Can you believe that over 4,000 mounds of lead were used to keep the foundations strong against the crashing waves? Another legendary fort is Janjira, which was so strong that many tried but failed to capture it! Shivaji Maharaj's naval vision was so advanced that even today, the modern Indian Navy gets inspiration from his courage and smart tactics. He taught us that defending our coast is just as important as defending our land!
🌍 Conservation Corner: When building ships, Shivaji Maharaj was very careful about the environment. He gave strict orders that high-quality wood like Teak and Mango should be used, but only if the owners agreed and were paid fairly. He believed that even during war, we must respect nature and the people who live on the land.
