Bhadrapada: The Elephant King’s Month 🐘

The Story: Put on your raincoat, we’re trekking through the sixth month, Bhadrapada (August-September)! Named after the Bhadrapada stars, this month is still part of the Varsha Ritu (Monsoon). The highlight of this month is Ganesh Chaturthi, the grand festival of the elephant-headed God, Ganesha. For ten days, people bring beautiful clay idols of Ganesha into their homes and celebrate with songs, dances, and delicious sweet dumplings called Modaks. This month is also a time of remembrance during Pitru Paksha. It’s a time to be grateful for our ancestors and to share food with those in need.

🌍 Conservation Corner: When celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, we can protect our rivers by using "Eco-friendly" idols made of natural clay and organic colors that don't hurt the fish!

🌍 Knowledge Check:

  1. Which famous festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha falls in Bhadrapada?
  2. What is the name of the sweet dumpling often made during this month?

Big Word: Biodegradable - Something that can be broken down naturally by bacteria or other living organisms without harming the environment.
