Ashadha: The Symphony of Rain 🌧️

The Land & The Story: Can you hear the thunder? Ashadha (June-July) is the fourth month and marks the transition from hot summer to the rainy season (Varsha Ritu). It is named after the Ashadha stars. This month is very important for spiritual people. On the full moon day, we celebrate Guru Purnima, a day to thank our teachers and mentors for their wisdom. In Odisha, the famous Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) of Lord Jagannath takes place, where giant wooden chariots are pulled by thousands of people. Ashadha is also the start of Chaturmas, a four-month period when many people practice meditation and simple living as the earth prepares for new growth.

🌍 Conservation Corner: Rain is a gift! You can learn about "Rainwater Harvesting"—the way we catch rain from our roofs to use it later for watering plants.

🌍 Knowledge Check:

  1. What is the name of the teacher-honoring festival in Ashadha?
  2. Which famous chariot festival happens in Odisha during this month?

Big Word: Monsoon - A seasonal wind that brings heavy rains to South Asia, cooling down the land after the heat.
