Sant Tukaram: The Poet of the People 🚩
The Land & The Story: Get ready to hum a tune, because we are meeting Sant Tukaram, a famous poet-saint from the town of Dehu in Maharashtra. Tukaram wasn't a king or a soldier; he was a simple man who loved singing songs to Lord Vitthal. He wrote thousands of poems called Abhangas, which were collected in a big book known as the 'Tukaram Gatha'.
Tukaram believed that God isn't just in temples—He is found in the hearts of people who are kind to others. He once said that a true saint is someone who treats those who are suffering as if they are his own family. He was a great friend to everyone, often sharing his food with the hungry. He spent much of his time at the Vithoba temple in Pandharpur, singing and dancing with joy. His songs were so powerful that even today, hundreds of years later, thousands of people sing them while they walk on the long journey called the Wari!
🌍 Conservation Corner: Tukaram loved nature! He often went to the Bhandara hill to sit in silence and write his poems. He taught that trees and plants are our friends and that we should protect the forests where birds and animals live.
