Ashvin: The Month of Victory 💃

The Land & The Story: The air is getting a bit crisp! Ashvin (September-October) is the seventh month and marks the beginning of Sharad Ritu (Autumn). It is named after the Ashvini nakshatra. This is one of the most exciting months because of Navaratri—nine nights of dancing and celebrating the Goddess Durga. In many parts of India, people do Garba and Dandiya dances. The tenth day is Dussehra, when we celebrate the victory of good over evil. It is also the month when people start preparing for the biggest festival of all—Diwali! The sky starts to clear up after the rains, and the moon looks extra bright and beautiful.

🌍 Conservation Corner: During Navaratri, many people use natural leaves and flowers for decorations. We can help by avoiding plastic decorations that end up in the trash after the festival.

🌍 Knowledge Check:

  1. How many nights is the festival of Navaratri celebrated for?
  2. What does the festival of Dussehra symbolize?

Big Word: Autumnal - Relating to or characteristic of the autumn season.
