🗺️ Expedition: The Shifting Sands: Majuli, the World’s Largest River Island 🏝️

The Land & The Story: In the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra River in Assam lies Majuli, a land of shifting sands and beautiful cultures. Majuli is famous for being one of the largest river islands in the world! It wasn't always an island; long ago, two rivers joined together and changed their path, carving out this piece of land. The people of Majuli, called the Mising tribe and others, live in houses built on tall bamboo stilts to stay safe when the river floods during the monsoon. Majuli is a very holy place and is known for its 'Sattras,' which are ancient monasteries where monks teach dance, music, and art. They make amazing masks out of bamboo and clay that look like gods and demons! However, the island is slowly getting smaller because the powerful river washes away its banks every year. The people are working hard to plant trees and protect their beautiful home from the water. Visiting Majuli feels like going back in time to a place where nature and tradition live hand in hand.

💡 Big Word: Erosion - The process where natural forces like water and wind gradually wear away the land.

🌍 Conservation Corner: Planting trees along riverbanks helps prevent erosion and keeps islands like Majuli from disappearing.
