The Asiatic Lion of Gir: Facts about India for Kids

Name:
Date:

πŸ—ΊοΈ Expedition: The Asiatic Lion of Gir 🦁

The Land & The Story: Pack your binoculars! We are traveling to the Gir National Park in Gujarat, India. This is a very special place because it is the only home in the whole world for the Asiatic Lion. Unlike African lions, Asiatic lions have a fold of skin along their bellies. They live in groups called 'prides,' and the kings of the jungle spend a lot of time resting under the shade of teak trees. Long ago, these lions lived across many countries, but now they are protected only here. The forest is dry and scrubby, which helps the lions hide with their sandy-colored fur.

πŸ’‘ Big Word: Endemic - This means a plant or animal is found only in one specific part of the world and nowhere else!

🌍 Conservation Corner: We can help lions by supporting forest guards who protect their homes from forest fires and making sure we never disturb animals when we visit a National Park.

🌍 Knowledge Check:

  1. In which Indian state is the Gir National Park located?
  2. What is the special group of lions called?
